Some minor Ted updates. Or major if you want to think of it that way.

New interface, new version of WordPress. Added some recipes to the side menu. Still trying to decide where to put the penguins in this one. Let me know if you have ideas.

Don’t normally use this for life/personal things, but thought some sort of an update was in order. Overall doing pretty well at the moment.

Job: Good (read: pays the bills, possibility for advancement, resume building if nothing else)

Rescue Squad: Good (read: almost done with EMT class, still having fun, still learning, still making a difference)

Living Situation: Improving (read: friend buying a house soon, probably move in with him, kitchen I can use!)

Family: Good (read: all in good health, even the crazy ones, Mom going in for surgery in a few weeks, kinda a big deal, but everyone is optimistic.)

Social Life: Improving (read: still have little time for breathing, let alone spending time with friends etc, but recent events lead me to believe that this is also looking up.)

Personal Health: Improving (read: overall I’m pretty healthy, but can always do better. Have cut soda pretty much completely out of my diet, only one or two cans a week. those that know me realize how impressive that is. Started up with a decent workout program that I’m pretty sure I can stick to (yey kettlebells!) and just had a healthy visit to the doctor/dentist.)

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been updating Ted a bit, but don’t feel bad if you didn’t. Much of it is background-admin stuff. That being said, some updates:

Updated WordPress to 2.0.6.

Updated several anti-spam features on the blog. If you think you’re being blocked for some undue reason, contact me with the time/day of when it happened and I’ll see what I can do.

New contact page, now you can drop me a line if you want, or don’t know my email addy. It will also let you preview the message before you send it.

Ted is now fully XHTML and CSS compliant. See the links at the bottom right of the page.

My email address @tedthepenguin.com is fixed. Long story short, I was checking the wrong email account… so I was like 120 messages behind. Think I’ve replied to everyone now, but if you’ve sent me an email recently, you should probably either send it again or use the new contact form.

Updated the Dell Battery Recall page with the latest updates.

Added a crossposter to LiveJournal… so all those I know with LJ accounts can get Ted updates from their friends feed.

Minor cosmetic changes to the site.

So I’ve been working on a new template for LiftPort but we’re transitioning to CMS, Mambo. So I have to figure out how to create a tempate that will work with that, as opposed to just something that works with what I created… which is what we have now.

Part of creating the template is writing the PHP and javascript that power the site; below is a snippit of the code that makes sure that Netscape based browsers play nice and don’t screw up the layout. Took me 20 minutes to figure out how/what it was doing. I need a Javascript refresher course badly.

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
function MM_reloadPage(init) { //reloads the window if Nav4 resized
  if (init==true) with (navigator) {if
     ((appName=="Netscape")&&(parseInt(appVersion)==
     {document.MM_pgW=innerWidth; document.MM_pgH=innerHeight;
     onresize=MM_reloadPage;}}
  else if (innerWidth!=document.MM_pgW ||
     innerHeight!=document.MM_pgH location.reload();
}
MM_reloadPage(true);
//-->
</script>

Ugly code aside, I’ve also been surely but slowly filling up Ted the Penguin with various bits of content that I’ve created over the years and is scattered around the web on various sites. So… check back for updates. If it’s not posted in the blog, check the sidebar to the right, it should have links to everything I put up.

Happy Surfing!
