Crazy Squirrels
July 30, 2006 – 1:06 amSo we’ve got squirrels. Everyone has squirrels. They’ve got squirrels in America, Asia, Eurpoe, and Africa.
Our squirrels are crazy. As are most people’s, but they are regardless.
Black squirrels are from Canada. Something about their dark hair keeping heat in. Cold up there and all. Anyway, apparently the National Zoo in DC got some in the early 20th century and a few escaped. Now they’re all over the DC area.
This article from the Washington Post says that they don’t seem to have any trouble interacting, that they don’t see differences between hair color. (Maybe they’re color blind? … Me thinks they’re only color blind to yellow for some freaky odd reason.)
Regardless, today coming home I saw three squirrels on the sidewalk in front of my house. Two grey squirrels and a black squirrel. The black squirrel was leading and bounding, like most squirrels do. The two grey squirrels were walking behind the black one in a line. Not hopping, but walking. The black squirrel would stop and look back every now and then, and wait for the others to catch up. Was very very weird.
And now, a picture of a black squirrel for your entertainment. Via the Washington Post.
