Being Thankful…
November 26, 2005 – 4:13 amAlright, so it’s Thanksgiving again. The time of year we go out, eat lots and lots of food, and smile because we’re blessed with such wonderful things in this life. Following in Tom’s footsteps, here is a short list of the things that I’m thankful for, in no paticular order.
- Friends and Family. I’ve got great friends that have no qualms about telling me that what I’m about to do is a stupid idea, in fact they’ll go out of their way to tell me almost before I know I’m going to do it myself… but they’ll always support my decision to do it. If you asked me ten years ago if I was going to have friends like this… I’d have told you nuts. My family is also great. As much as they get on my nerves sometimes… and as much of my family should probably be incarcarated into a mental hospital, I still love them all. They also support me and care for me probably more than I know, and I don’t tell them often enough how much it means to me. I should probably get on that.
- Emily. Maybe I should have included her the Friends and Family section because she is one and the same, but she’s such a big part of my life… she deserves her own part. I’ve never had a stronger connection with someone than I have with her and it’s a joy to be a part of her life, let alone be privilaged enough to be her boyfriend. I couldn’t ask to be dating a better person, and I wouldn’t.
- Student Help Desk. Alright, this is one I thought I’d never say. Sure it stresses me out 95 percent of the time and I think it may be giving me an ulcer, but I work with wonderful people and I enjoy what I do. For the thanks that one student who’s 15 page research paper I helped recover offered… that’s why I do this job. Sure it’s a thankless one and I get yelled at a fair amount, but it makes me happy.
- LiftPort. Like Tom and Brian, I love working on the Space Elevator. Sure, I don’t do a whole lot, especially at the moment, college and all, which really rather bothers me, but I feel that such a project is necessary and has the potential to greatly improve human life. Along the way I’ve gotten the chance to learn a few things and meet some really good people. Who would have imagined that I could be part of something like this?
This isn’t everything of course, but it covers the biggies.
