To Tor Or Not To Tor

June 10, 2005 – 10:38 am

As a followup to this post, I downloaded and tested Tor last night.

Conculsion, 7/10. If you’re looking to use the internet anonymously, it’s a great way to do it. Be it you’re using Bittorent or Limewire and don’t want to get caught, your looking up something you should be while at work and want to cover your tracks, Tor is the tool for you.

The install is easy enough on Win32 and OS X, though it requires some editing of system settings that the casual user may not be comfy with. (Should be noted that the documentation is decent though)

Using Tor with anything besides web browsing is seamless, any delay isn’t that noticable, though I haven’t tested it on dialup yet. Web browsing is slower, takes an average of an additional 3-4 seconds to load a regular page, 5-10 seconds for an encrypted page.

More later perhaps.
